It’s pretty easy to find mechanical rights owners, but how does one find the sync rights owners? Other than putting something out and receiving a cease and desist letter?
When a copyright protected work is created, the author reserves the right to restrict any reproduction of their work. This includes mechanical rights and synchronization rights. So when dealing with a composer or even their publishers, it's very rare that the mechanical rights and synchronization rights are controlled by two different parties. However, when we are negotiating Custom licenses on your behalf, we will always verify 100% of all rights owners for the license you need. To avoid receiving a Cease and Desist letter, we always recommend obtaining the appropriate licensing before releasing anything.
