Prima Facie
Pronounced "pree·muh fay·shee"
Prima facie is a legal term. It means that the other side bears the burden of proof to prove that the work is not yours. In Copyright, it means you have the upper hand if someone infringes on your work or tries to claim your work as their own because they have to prove it isn't yours first.
How Do I Get It?
Prima Facie is established when you register your copyright with the Library of Congress either before publication, or within 5 years of publication. You can register directly with the Copyright Office at Copyright.gov. Their system works fine, but it is not entirely user friendly. We offer our Copyright Services to do this for you in a way that is as easy and straight forward as possible.
