What are Digital Distributors / Aggregators?
If you've ever listened to music on Spotify or downloaded a song from iTunes, then you have a Digital Distributor to thank (they are also called Aggregators). These companies take in your music, or your record label sends it to them, and they distribute it out to their aggregate platform of streaming services and online stores. This allows musicians of all levels to quickly get their music out there and into the hands of listeners.
Digital Distributor vs. Publisher
It's important to note that a Digital Distributor provides different services than a Publisher. Signing your music up with a Publisher does not automatically mean it will be distributed, and the same goes that signing up with a Digital Distributor does not automatically mean you have publishing representation or royalty collection set up. It's recommended to have both a Digital Distributor and a Publisher.
